Austin-born brand celebrates college basketball teams with a game-day gift

The Crowd Goes Wild for Free Cheeseburgers During Sweet 16 Week
Austin, TX  (RestaurantNews.com)  Drew Gressett, founder of Hat Creek Burger Company, has been told by fans that he only does free burgers for football games, so he decided to change that. As a former college baller and with Sweet 16 action heating up, the popular burger joint is hitting three-pointers with a one-day offer made for game-day mania: free food for fans.

On March 26, in collaboration with Texas One, Hat Creek is turning school spirit into something a little more delicious. Fans who show up in burnt orange can score a free Cheeseburger.

“College basketball in Texas just hits different – especially when the stakes are this high,” said Drew Gressett, founder and CEO of Hat Creek Burger Company. “We’ll be playing the games featuring Texas teams with the sound up at all of our locations because we wanted to give fans a place to come together, enjoy the game and celebrate with a burger on us. It’s our way of being part of the moment with the communities we serve.”

Hat Creek’s burgers feature all-natural, never-frozen beef sourced from Goodstock by Nolan Ryan and is topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, diced onions and mustard on a toasted bun, also available gluten-free.

* The promotion is available all day on March 26, 2026 at participating Hat Creek locations and is limited to one free cheeseburger per guest wearing burnt orange merch. Dine-in only.
